ESTIMATION of the ORGAN ABSORBED DOSES and EFFECTIVE DOSE from 68 Ga-PSMA-11 PET SCAN

68 Ga-PSMA-11 PET/CT has been proven to have high clinical value for imaging of prostate cancer and rapidly gained popularity. In this study, we aimed to investigate absorbed doses of 68 Ga-PSMA-11. Seven patients (mean age = 66.9 ± 6.6 years, range: 57-79 years) were enrolled in the study. Whole body PET images were acquired with multiple time points. MIRD method, NUKFIT and OLINDA/EXM software were used for dosimetry calculations. Kidneys, bladder wall, salivary and lacrimal glands received the highest absorbed dose. Estimated absorbed doses to these organs after injection of 150 MBq 68 Ga-PSMA-11 were 37.0, 12.6, 14.4 and 6.3 mSv . . ., respectively. Effective dose from PET scanning with 150 MBq injected 68 Ga-PSMA-11 was 2.5 mSv. In conclusion, 68 Ga-PSMA-11 has a favorable dosimetry profile similar to the 68 Ga labeled octreotide analogs, which are used safely in routine clinical practices for many years. Investigation of lsepamicin, Chloramphenicol and Minocycline Sensitivity in Carbapenem-Resistant Enterobacteriaceae

Objective: In this study, we aimed to determine the resistance mechanisms of carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE), and evaluate the prospective alternative treatment options. Methods: Between October 2014 and July 2015, rectal swabs routinely obtained from hospitalized patients were included in the study. The isolated Gram-negative enteric bacteria were identified to the species level by using standard conventional microbiological methods. Determined carbapenem resistance in enteric bacteria was confirmed by using meropenem Etest (R) (bioMerieux, Marcy l'Etoile, France), and the resistance mechanisms were investigated with . . .MAST-ID (TM) Discs (Mast Diagnostics Ltd, Bootle, Merseyside, UK). Antibiotic susceptibilities of the CRE were determined by disk diffusion method using isepamicin, chloramphenicol, and minocycline disks (Oxoid, Basingstoke, Hampshire, UK). Results: Of the 3,323 rectal swabs sent to the laboratory during the study period, totally 84 (2.5%) CRE were isolated with one strain from each patient. Of the 84 CRE, 74 (88%) were Klebsiella pneumoniae and 10 (12%) were Escherichia coli. Among the 84 CRE, 66 (78.5%) with OXA-48, 11 (13.1%) with OXA48 + metallo-beta-lactamase (MBL), 1 (1.2%) with only MBL and 1 (1.2%) with AmpC + porin loss were detected, none of the strains were positive for KPC. In 5 (6%) strains, none of the resistance mechanisms were found. Of the 84 CRE, 80 (95.2%), 77 (91.6%) and 14 (16.6%) were found to be susceptible to isepamicin, chloramphenicol and minocycline, respectively. Conclusions: The OXA-48 type, endemic in Turkey, was also the most commonly detected carbapenemase in the study. Does giving brief information keep patients calm during different oral surgical procedures?

Objectives: Dental anxiety may play a central role in the oral health status and treatment outcomes of oral surgical procedures. The study aimed to investigate the effect that brief written information has over patients undergoing oral surgical procedures and to evaluate factors that may cause anxiety. Method and Materials: A prospective study was performed on 38 mandibular third molar surgery patients (mean age 26.74 ± 6.44 years) and 56 implant surgery patients (mean age 49.13 ± 15.11 years). The Spielberger State-Trait Anxiety Inventory was used to measure state (STAI-S) and trait anxiety (STAI-T). The visual analog scale (VAS) was used for pain scores preoperatively and on days 1, 3, 5, and 7. Demographic data and intraoperative behaviors of patients were recorded. Results: All groups had similar anxiety scores at baseline. Preoperative STAI-S and VAS scores were similar between study and control groups (P > .05). Study groups showed significantly lower mean intraoperative anxiety levels (P < .05). The implant group had a significantly lower VAS score (P < .05). STAI-T and preoperative STAI-S were not related to VAS. Postoperative STAI-S and VAS and recuperation were correlated (P < .05). Women showed significantly higher anxiety and VAS scores. Conclusion: The patients who received written information did not report lower anxiety scores. However, improved patient cooperation could be achieved with this method. Subcritical water extraction of phenolic and antioxidant constituents from pistachio (Pistacia vera L.) hulls

Pistachio hulls, important by-products of pistachio processing, were extracted using an environmentally friendly process with subcritical water (SCW) at a pressure of 6.9 MPa in the range of 110 and 190 °C, and a flow rate of 4 ml/min. Detailed HPLC-DAD-ESI/MSn analyses allowed the identification of 49 phenolic compounds in the SCW extracts. Total gallotannin yields up to 33 g/kg were reached at 150–170 °C, where gallic acid (22.2 g/kg) and penta-O-galloyl-ß-D-glucose (9.77 g/kg) levels were 13.2- and 10.6-fold higher than those in the aqueous methanol extracts. Flavonols were also effectively extracted at 110–150 °C (4.37–5.65 g/kg . . .), while anacardic acid recovery was poor (1.13–2.77 g/kg). Accordingly, high amounts of anacardic acids (up to 50.7 g/kg) were retained in the extraction residue, revealing that SCW extraction allowed selective extraction of gallotannins and flavonols. Objective: To assess the awareness of childhood autism among physicians undergoing residency training in various disciplines. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted at a research and training hospital in Istanbul, Turkey, in February 2013 and comprised physicians undergoing residency training in various disciplines. Data was collected through a self-administered questionnaire. Questions about “awareness on autism” were prepared in the light of “Knowledge about Childhood Autism among Health Workers questionnaire. Results: Of the 128 physicians, 122(95.3%) were aware that the most known characteristic of childhood autism wa . . .s “failure to build-up friendship”. All of the 29(22.66%) physicians at the neuropsychiatric disciplines were aware that “autism can be a genetic disorder”, whereas, in other disciplines 69(69.7) physicians had that awareness. Besides, 15(51.7%) of the residents of the neuropsychiatric disciplines thought that “autism can be associated with childhood epilepsy”, while 32(32.3%) physicians of other disciplines gave a similar answer (p=0.057). Effects of intratympanic dexamethasone on noise-induced hearing loss: An experimental study

Aim Aim of the study was to evaluate the effect of intratympanic steroid treatment on hearing based on oto-acoustic emission. Methods A total of 16 healthy female Wistar albino rats weighing were used in this study. They were divided in to 2 groups and each group was exposed to noise at 110 dB for 25 min to induce acoustic trauma. Intratympanic dexamethasone was administered to the middle ears of animals in the experimental group on the same day as exposure to noise. The control group was given 0.09% saline solution. Distortion product otoacoustic emission measurements were performed on days 7 and 10. Results There were no differenc . . .es between the emission results of two groups before treatment at 4004, 4761, 5652, 6726, and 7996 Hz. There were significant group differences on measurement days 7 and 10 at all frequencies. The effect of inulin addition (5 and 10%) on the total antioxidant capacity, ?-tocopherol and carotenoid contents, and in vitro gastrointestinal digestion of tomato sauces was investigated. In this study, ?-tocopherol and carotenoids were quantified using HPLC. Moreover, the total antioxidant activity of the ethanol/hexane extracts was determined by two different in vitro assays. A negative linear relationship was observed between carotenoids and dietary fibre. Eplerenone nanoemulsions for treatment of hypertension. Part I: Experimental design for optimization of formulations and physical characterization

Nanoemulsions of eplerenone (EP) were designed with the aim of improving its bioavailability for an effective antihypertensive therapy. Nanoemulsions were prepared by high shear homogenization and ultrasonication methods. Oleyl erucate, Brij® 35, Tween® 80, Tego Care® 450 and Poloxamer® 407 were used as the liquid lipid and surfactants for optimization of formulations by design of experiments approach. Thus, oil, surfactant and water contents of nanoemulsions were defined by determination of their droplet size and droplet size distribution by dynamic light scattering method. Formulations were screened by scanning electron microscopy . . .. Drug payload and release properties of the formulations were investigated. Analytical quantification method of EP was validated by high performance liquid chromatograpy. Nanoemulsions having average droplet size between 150.6 nm and 205.8 nm were gained with homogenous droplet size distribution and high entrapment efficiency (84.47–98.51%). Formulations released 44.37–82.87% of EP within 1 h and drug release was completed up to 5–6 h. Thus, drug release characteristics of formulations optimized in this study might introduce benefits for rapid response and maintenance of treatment in hypertension attacks. The aim of the present complimentary study was to investigate physical stability of eplerenone (EP) loaded nanoemulsions and to evaluate their pharmacokinetic profiles after subcutaneous application to Sprague Dawley rats. Nanoemulsions were prepared by using high shear homogenization and ultrasonication techniques. All formulations were having 0.1% EP. They were obtained in 150.6 nm–205.8 nm size range. Physical stability of nanoemulsions was monitored storing them at different thermal conditions for 120 days. Droplet size was confirmed to be affected by storage temperature when it slightly changed at 4 ± 2 °C and 25 ± 2 °C. 40 ± 2 . . . °C was found not to be suitable as a storage condition in general. Pharmacokinetic study on physically stable formulations demonstrated that subcutaneously applied eplerenone solution showed that AUC0›? and Cmax were 1.62 and 2.05 folds higher than eplerenone solution after oral administration. Additionally, AUC0›? and Cmax were significantly increased in the case of nanoemulsions prepared with Brij® 35 and Tween® 80. Relative bioavailability of the drug was found to be remarkably increased after administration of formulations stabilized with Tween® 80. Salmon calcitonin ameliorates migraine pain through modulation of CGRP release and dural mast cell degranulation in rats

The exact mechanism of migraine pathophysiology still remains unclear due to the complex nature of migraine pain. Salmon calcitonin (SC) exhibits antinociceptive effects in the treatment of various pain conditions. In this study, we explored the mechanisms underlying the analgesic effect of salmon calcitonin on migrane pain using glyceryltrinitrate (GTN)-induced model of migraine and ex vivo meningeal preparations in rats. Rats were intraperitoneally administered saline, GTN (10 mg/kg), vehicle, saline + GTN, SC (50 µg/kg) + GTN, and SC alone. Also, ex vivo meningeal preparations were applied topically 100 µmol/L GTN, 50 µmol/L SC, . . .and SC + GTN. Calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) contents of plasma, trigeminal neurons and superfusates were measured using enzyme-immunoassays. Dural mast cells were stained with toluidine blue. c-fos neuronal activity in trigeminal nucleus caudalis (TNC) sections were determined by immunohistochemical staining. The results showed that GTN triggered the increase in CGRP levels in plasma, trigeminal ganglion neurons and ex vivo meningeal preparations. Likewise, GTN-induced c-fos expression in TNC. In in vivo experiments, GTN caused dural mast cell degranulation, but similar effects were not seen in ex vivo experiments. Salmon calcitonin administration ameliorated GTN-induced migraine pain by reversing the increases induced by GTN. Our findings suggested that salmon calcitonin could alleviate the migraine-like pain by modulating CGRP release at different levels including the generation and conduction sites of migraine pain and mast cell behaviour in the dura mater.
