Serdaroglu, K.C. | Kadioglu, T. | Baydere, S.

Book Part | 2018 | Studies in Computational Intelligence715 , pp.45 - 58

The era of computing based on physical data is coming. IoT gateways are gaining more importance as Internet will be the main infrastructure to gather real world data to augment the pervasiveness in remote monitoring of the physical world. Considering the explosion in the number of connected “things”, interconnection models impose more functionality in gateways which traditionally were considered as simple protocol converters. Under this perception, IoT gateways should also operate as platforms for applications that process data, manage data traffic and become an intelligent part of a device-enabled system. In this paper, we give a b . . .rief survey of state-of-the interconnection solutions and propose a publish subscribe based service for periodic data acquisition from Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN). The service is designed as an interconnection model over the web server based IoT gateway architecture; Wisegate. The architecture and its services are implemented with a 6LoWPAN border router (6LBR) at the backend and a lightweight stack on sensor nodes (6LN) in order to show its end-to-end operability. The experimental results reveal that the proposed approach has encouraging latency and response time characteristics in the given setup. © 2018, Springer International Publishing AG Daha fazlası Daha az

This work proposes a gamification approach to measure the driving behavior using the in-vehicle data and score drivers. Existing work largely focus on one functionality: either displaying vehicular info or scoring the driver. And some other work just provides navigation or Point of Interest (POI). In our work, we combine these features with minimal distraction for the driver. With this goal, we consider a system that interfaces to the vehicle bus and find the errors of the driver during the drive using multiple criteria. Furthermore, by providing achievements and leader boards, the driver is motivated to have a good score while driv . . .ing. To facilitate this analysis and to evaluate the system, we recorded two trips in real traffic. The results show that we achieve more than 95% accuracy between real-world scenario and the simulation. We also present POI feature that finds nearest preferred locations which are restaurants, hospitals, gas stations, pharmacies, car repair shops. © Springer International Publishing AG, part of Springer Nature 2018 Daha fazlası Daha az

Conference Object | 2018 | Lecture Notes in Computer Science (including subseries Lecture Notes in Artificial Intelligence and Lecture Notes in Bioinformatics)10995 LNCS , pp.18 - 29

People spend a lot of time behind the wheel every day. Reading newspapers while driving a car is almost impossible. In this work, a mobile news reader application is developed to deliver the latest news from various sources to the drivers. The major difference from other news reader applications is that it is developed in accordance with the Ford SYNC technology. The user will be able to view the latest news on the SYNC screen while driving and listening to the selected news. In addition, drivers can select the desired news source and the desired news with the voice commands. Therefore, our proposed news reader application is an ena . . .bler for the drivers to follow the news in a safe way without distraction while keeping their hands on the wheel and their eyes on the road. © Springer International Publishing AG, part of Springer Nature 2018 Daha fazlası Daha az

Evaluation of the clavicular tunnel placement on coracoclavicular ligament reconstruction for acromioclavicular dislocations: a finite element analysis

Kocadal, O. | Yüksel, K. | Güven, M.

Article | 2018 | International Orthopaedics42 ( 8 ) , pp.1891 - 1896

Purpose: The two-tunnel coracoclavicular ligament reconstruction (CLR) technique is one of the treatment approaches commonly used in the surgical treatment of acromioclavicular (AC) injuries. Clavicular tunnel malposition is one of the major causes of failure in coracoclavicular ligament reconstruction. The main purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of clavicular tunnel placement on tendon loading in the CLR technique with finite element analysis. Methods: Models of clavicle and scapula were constructed using computerized tomography images. Two clavicular bone tunnel reconstruction models were created with the tendon . . .passing through the conoid and trapezoid tunnels. Four models based on the tunnel ratio (TR) method and defined as primary, anatomic, medialized, and lateralized were constructed to evaluate the effect of tunnel placement on loading conditions during tendon graft. All models were loaded by insertion from the trapezius and sternocleidomastoid muscles. The loading on the tendon were evaluated with the finite element analysis. Results: The highest load value measured on the tendon was in the anatomic model (0.789 kPa), and the lowest load value (0.598 kPa) was measured in the lateralized tunnel model. The load value of the primary model was (0.657 kPa), and the medialized model’s value was (0.752 kPa). Conclusions: In two-tunnel CLR technique, tendon loadings are related to tunnel placement. Medialized tunnel placement increases tendon loading. The TR method may be an appropriate option for determining tunnel placement. © 2018, SICOT aisbl Daha fazlası Daha az

Server-based indoor location detection system

Perente, O.K. | Serif, T.

Conference Object | 2018 | Lecture Notes in Computer Science (including subseries Lecture Notes in Artificial Intelligence and Lecture Notes in Bioinformatics)10995 LNCS , pp.142 - 153

With the advancement of technology and telecommunication services, data consumption rates are increasing ever since. People for long have started using applications with the help of contextual information to improve their user experience. Thus, providing a cross-platform location service to further enrich such applications has become a necessity. For this purpose, numerous client-based indoor location systems on mobile devices are developed to perform this task. Nevertheless, most of the time these systems suffer from elimination of features from operating systems for security purposes. Indeed, with the current security trends, to e . . .nsure the privacy of mobile users, mobile operating system designers are progressively eliminating certain low-level features such as reading RSSI and introducing randomized MAC addresses. Thus, in this study, the authors propose, design and implement a server-based indoor positioning system to eliminate platform dependency and to provide the location detection in wide range of devices. The designed server-based system is scalable and platform independent; hence can run on virtually any family of smart device. Furthermore, the evaluation findings indicate that the proposed system performs in acceptable accuracy to client-based systems compared to more complex and costly implementations. © Springer International Publishing AG, part of Springer Nature 2018 Daha fazlası Daha az

The reuse of reclaimed water for irrigation around the Mediterranean Rim: a step towards a more virtuous cycle?

Ait-Mouheb, N. | Bahri, A. | Thayer, B.B. | Benyahia, B. | Bourrié, G. | Cherki, B. | Harmand, J.

Review | 2018 | Regional Environmental Change18 ( 3 ) , pp.693 - 705

Climate change and a growing population around the Mediterranean Rim are increasing the need for water and, consequently, the pressure on resources in terms of both quantity and quality. High-quality water should be primarily reserved to drinking water while reclaimed water is an alternative for other usages. A review of situations in Tunisia, Jordan, France, and Italy involving the use of reclaimed water highlights the disparity in national regulations governing this alternative water resource and in its management. On the first hand, the use of recycled water for irrigation can have an adverse impact on public health and the envir . . .onment, depending on treatment and irrigation practices. On the other hand, it may also represent a new source of water: wastewater should no longer be considered as waste but, rather, as a new resource to be handled in a circular economy-type loop. Current scientific knowledge in agronomic and environmental sciences, as well as in the economic and social sciences, can be integrated and used to lower the associated risk through the effective management of irrigation using recycled water and to address the following questions: (i) How can the time-varying nutrient needs of crops be managed to operate safe environmental reuse within an adapted risk assessment framework? (ii) What socio-economic models can render this integrated approach sustainable? (iii) What treatment systems and irrigation technology can be used to support these ideas and with what information? (iv) What changes in the regulations are needed? © 2018, Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature Daha fazlası Daha az

Köse, C. | Güneş, A. | Kaya, Ö. | Kıtır, N. | Turan, M. | Şahin, Fikrettin

Article | 2018 | Erwerbs-Obstbau60 , pp.3 - 10

This study was conducted to determine the effects of plant growth promoting bacteria (PGPR) and boron (Bio-B) on the plant freeze injury, antioxidant enzyme activity and fruit yield of grapevine cultivar. The experimental plot was a completely randomized design with 5 replicates. As a trial model Bio-B and control were used as fertilizer agent. Bio-B fertilizer has been applied in different ways as soil?+ foliar, soil and foliar application methods to grapevine plants. Data through 2 years trials results showed that the use of Bio-B significantly decreased freeze injury and increased antioxidant enzyme activity of grapevine leaf. Th . . .e highest damage rate at control group occurred with -20?°C and 94.89% ratio. In the same temperature degree at grape plant, the damage ratio of the Bio-B application from soil decreased by 21.55%; the application from leaf by 25.53% and with the application from soil?+ leaf by 26.24%. In addition to this, compared with control, in the CAT, POD and SOD enzyme activities increases occurred with the ratios as 28.57%, 22.05% and 39.25%, respectively. Generally, as results of this study under field conditions, Bio-B fertilizer application decreased freeze injure and increased antioxidant enzyme activity of the grapevine plant. © 2018, Springer-Verlag GmbH Deutschland, ein Teil von Springer Nature Daha fazlası Daha az

Dynamic capping of physical register files in simultaneous multi-threading processors for performance

Güngörer, H. | Küçük, G.

Conference Object | 2018 | Communications in Computer and Information Science935 , pp.41 - 48

Today, Simultaneous Multi-Threading (SMT) processors allow sharing of many datapath elements among applications. This type of resource sharing helps keeping the area requirement of a SMT processor at a very modest size. However, a major performance problem arises due to resource conflicts when multiple threads race for the same shared resource. In an earlier study, the authors propose capping of a shared resource, Physical Register File (PRF), for improving processor performance by giving less PRF entries, and, hence, spending less power, as well. For the sake of simplicity, the authors propose a fix PRF-capping amount, which they c . . .laim to be sufficient for all workload combinations. However, we show that a fix PRF-capping strategy may not always give the optimum performance, since any thread’s behavior may change at any time during execution. In this study, we extend that earlier work with an adaptive PRF-capping mechanism, which tracks down the behavior of all running threads and move the cap value to a near-optimal position by the help of a hill-climbing algorithm. As a result, we show that we can achieve up to 21% performance improvement over the fix capping method, giving 7.2% better performance, on the average, in a 4-threaded system. © Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2018 Daha fazlası Daha az
