Investigation into robot-assisted rehabilitation systems, and robot-assisted systems that are capable of detecting patient's emotions and then modifying the rehabilitation task to better suit the patients' abilities by taking account their emotions have gained momentum in recent years. In this paper, our aim is to distinguish whether the subject is under-challenged or over-challenged using psychophysiological signal data collected from biofeedback sensors while executing the tasks with RehabRoby. Initially, features are extracted from the physiological signals (Blood Volume Pulse (BVP), Skin Conductance (SC), and Skin Temperature (S . . .T)). The extracted features are examined in terms of their contribution to the classification of the overstressed/over-challenged, boredom/under-challenged using variance analysis (ANOVA). The most significant features are selected, and various classification methods are used to classify overstressed/over-challenged, boredom/under-challenged. © 2017 IEEE Daha fazlası Daha az

A new decomposition approach for the home health care problem

Lahrichi, N. | Lanzarone, E. | Yalçındağ, S.

Conference Object | 2017 | Springer Proceedings in Mathematics and Statistics210 , pp.27 - 36

Home Health Care (HHC) is a relatively new service that plays an important role to reduce hospitalization costs and improve the life quality for patients. Human resource planning is one of the most important processes in HHC systems, for which service providers have to deal with several operational problems, e.g., the assignment of operators to patients together with their routing process. In the literature, either these problems have been simultaneously solved, or decomposed by first solving the assignment problem and then the routing problem. In this work, we propose an alternative approach, where the decomposition is based on the . . . First Route and Second Assign (FRSA) approach. An instance generation mechanism is developed as well, which generates instances inspired from real HHC providers, to test the proposed FRSA approach under different circumstances. Preliminary experiments show the effectiveness of the approach. © Springer International Publishing AG 2017 Daha fazlası Daha az

Human mortality modeling with a fuzzy approach based on singular value decomposition technique

Demirel, D.F. | Basak, M.

Conference Object | 2017 | Studies in Computational Intelligence669 , pp.197 - 215

Modeling and forecasting human mortality are significant research topics in several disciplines because mortality rates are fundamental in planning and policy decisions. Among various techniques, Lee Carter (LC) model is one of the most popular stochastic method in human mortality modeling. The original LC model was fuzzified to eliminate the assumptions related with homoscedasticity. The existing fuzzy model makes use of ordinary least squares (OLS) technique, which prevents the model to capture the existing fluctuations in data. In this study, a revised version of fuzzy LC model utilizing singular value decomposition (SVD) techniq . . .ue is proposed to overcome this issue. After modeling the mortality rates, their future values are forecasted by a modified first order fuzzy time series technique. For illustration purposes, proposed method is applied to mortality data of Finland. Numerical outputs show that proposed method is statistically better in modeling mortality compared to the existing fuzzy method. In addition, the modified fuzzy time series technique generates better forecasts than the original version. © Springer International Publishing AG 2017 Daha fazlası Daha az

Challenges and Possible Consequences of Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership

Kurtul, H | Akkartal, E

Conference Object | 2017 | FINANCIAL ENVIRONMENT AND BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT4 , pp.189 - 197

In recent years, the European Union (EU) and the USA change their trade policy, and also they began negotiations for signing the most comprehensive free trade agreement. Its negotiations began in the second half of 2013 and is called Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP), whose key points are transparency, coherence, and nondiscriminatory. With these types of qualifications, EU and US administration believes that this partnership will boost economic power, and not only the EU and the USA but also all countries in the world will benefit from the outputs of the agreement. On the other hand, although their intensions ar . . .e widely on the same direction, sometimes controversial platforms occur, because both parties do not want to change their implementations at some topics such as conformity assessments, genetically modified products, and hormone-treated meat. Accordingly, the objective of this paper is to identify mainly the key challenges of the TTIP with qualitative and quantitative data. Descriptive analysis of the data will be displayed. The agreement has two main bodies as horizontal side which means regulatory cooperation and sectorial side. In this paper, regulatory cooperation and its context are considered as essential subjects. Sectors have more details and it is hard to explain all situations in sectors. After focusing on the reasons of the existence of the TTIP, the need will be explained. Then the main elements, such as market access, regulatory coherence, and improved cooperation, are mentioned. As a conclusion, mostly recommendations and expectations take part because of the fact that negotiations are going on Daha fazlası Daha az

A decomposition approach for the home health care problem with time windows

Yalçındağ, S. | Matta, A.

Conference Object | 2017 | Springer Proceedings in Mathematics and Statistics210 , pp.221 - 232

Optimization tools are necessary to efficiently plan service delivery for patients at home in the context of Home Health Care services. In the scientific literature, Periodic Vehicle Routing Problem with Time Windows (PVRPTW) is proposed to address the assignment, scheduling and routing processes with time windows. However, PVRPTW is computationally difficult and not viable for large-size problems. Thus, a practical approach is proposed to decompose the problem. Time windows are considered at the assignment level using a probabilistic model without the need of solving the routing problem. Mixed integer mathematical programming model . . .s are proposed and solved by CPLEX solver. Numerical experiments are executed to validate the performance of the proposed models with respect to the PVRPTW. © Springer International Publishing AG 2017 Daha fazlası Daha az

A Bayesian Change Point Model for Epileptic Seizure Detection

Yildiz, C | Bingol, HO | Irim-Celik, G | Aktekin, B | Aykut-Bingol, C

Conference Object | 2017 | 2017 25TH SIGNAL PROCESSING AND COMMUNICATIONS APPLICATIONS CONFERENCE (SIU) , pp.176 - 177

Epilepsy is a chronic neurological disorder in which the normal pattern of neuronal activity in the brain becomes disturbed. Identification of the brain region that is abnormally active during an epileptic seizure is vital for epilepsy surgery. One way of achieving so is to collect electroencephalography ( EEG) signals from epileptic people and then to identify the active region as a seizure occurs. In this work, we present a Bayesian change point model that detects when seizures occur. We applied our method to a data set that contains 48 EEG and electrocardiography (EKG) record pairs collected from epileptic people and observed tha . . .t the model is able to detect all seizures Daha fazlası Daha az

Realization of Field Estimation with Sensors Designed using Low Power and Low Cost Components

Akgun, VY | Masazade, E

Conference Object | 2017 | 2017 25TH SIGNAL PROCESSING AND COMMUNICATIONS APPLICATIONS CONFERENCE (SIU) , pp.176 - 177

In this paper, we first form a sensor using low power and low cost components, that is, MSP430G2553 microcontroller, nRF24L01+ communication unit, and a Light Dependent Resistor (LDR). Then, by communicating such sensors with a Fusion Center (FC), we form a Wireless Sensor Network (WSN). Sensors measure the light intensities at their locations and send their measurements to the FC. Then, FC forwards the sensor measurements to the computer which performs field estimation using ordinary kriging. Our test results show that the predicted field measurement using ordinary kriging at a specific location is quite close to the actual sensor . . .measurement at that location Daha fazlası Daha az
