Sensor selection with correlated measurements for target tracking in wireless sensor networks

S. Liu | E. Masazade | M. Fardad | P.K. Varshney

Conference Object | 2015 | ICASSP, IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech and Signal Processing - Proceedings2015-August , pp.4030 - 4034

We study the problem of adaptive sensor management for target tracking, where at every instant we search for the best sensors to be activated at the next time step. In our problem formulation, the measurements may be corrupted by correlated noises, and the impact of correlated measurements on sensor selection is studied. Specifically, we adopt an alternative conditional posterior Cramér-Rao lower bound (C-PCRLB) as the optimization criterion for sensor selection, where the trace of the conditional Fisher information matrix is maximized subject to an energy constraint. We demonstrate that the proposed sensor selection problem can be . . .transformed into the problem of maximizing a convex quadratic function over a bounded polyhedron. This optimization problem is NP-hard in nature, and thus we employ a linearization method and a bilinear programming approach to obtain locally optimal sensor schedules in a computationally efficient manner. © 2015 IEEE Daha fazlası Daha az

Modeling a supply chain as a queuing system

Toktas-Palut, P. | Ülengin, F.

Conference Object | 2010 | IFAC Proceedings Volumes (IFAC-PapersOnline) , pp.242 - 247

This study investigates a two-stage supply chain consisting of multiple suppliers at the first stage and a manufacturer at the second stage. The suppliers and the manufacturer have limited production capacities. The system operates in a manufacture-to-order environment, i.e. the suppliers and the manufacturer employ make-to-stock and make-to-order strategies, respectively. The inventory of each component at each supplier is controlled via base stock policy. The aim of this study is to model the supply chain as a queuing system. Under the necessary assumptions, each supplier is modeled as an M / M /1make-to-stock queue. Moreover, the . . . average outstanding backorders and the average inventory level of each supplier are derived using the queuing model. On the other hand, the manufacturer is modeled as a GI / M /1 queue after deriving an approximate distribution for the interarrival times of the manufacturer. Furthermore, the average number of jobs in the manufacturer's system and the average outstanding backorders at the manufacturer are obtained using the queuing model. © 2010 IFAC Daha fazlası Daha az

On some of the factors influencing the fines' role on liquefaction of silty sands

Monkul, M.M.

Conference Object | 2012 | Geotechnical Special Publication ( 225 GSP ) , pp.799 - 808

Silty sands are among the soil types that are prone to liquefaction when subjected to static or dynamic undrained loading. Today, it is widely accepted that clean sands and silty sands react differently in terms of liquefaction behavior. With this observation, factors influencing fines' role on such a difference have been investigated by various researchers. Some of those factors such as laboratory specimen preparation method and confining stress are relatively well understood. However, some others such as fines content (FC) are still debated and being investigated. More explicitly, there is not a widely accepted consensus on whethe . . .r increasing fines content increases or decreases the liquefaction resistance of silty sands, even with the same comparison basis (i.e. loosest possible density after deposition, same void ratio, same relative density etc.). Recently, relative size of silt grains to the sand grains is also found to be another factor influencing the fines' role on liquefaction behavior of silty sands. In this paper, some of the research in literature regarding liquefaction of silty sands is re-visited and various factors influencing the fines' role on liquefaction behavior are summarized. © 2012 American Society of Civil Engineers Daha fazlası Daha az

Dirichlet problems for the generalized n-poisson equation

Aksoy, Ü. | Çelebi, A.O.

Conference Object | 2010 | Operator Theory: Advances and Applications205 , pp.129 - 141

Polyharmonic hybrid Green functions, obtained by convoluting polyharmonic Green and Almansi Green functions, are taken as kernels to define a hierarchy of integral operators. They are used to investigate the solvability of some types of Dirichlet problems for linear complex partial differential equations with leading term as the polyharmonic operator. © 2009 Birkhäuser Verlag Basel/Switzerland.

Modeling multicomponent vapor-liquid diffusion at high pressure including convective effects in the vapor phase

Solak, E | Cem, G | Unlusu, B

Conference Object | 2009 | MATHEMATICAL METHODS AND APPLIED COMPUTING, VOL 1 , pp.391 - 392

The numerical solution technique developed by Lee and Oh [I] for the treatment of diffusional reactions with a moving boundary is applied to vapor-liquid diffusion problems including convective effects in the vapor phase. The numerical results obtained for the evaporation of methanol into air at ambient pressure compare well with the experimental data reported by Slattery and Mhetar [2]. The method is also applied to multicomponent diffusion at high pressure where the dissolution of the gas in the liquid phase may have a significant effect on the interface displacement. The evaporation and dissolution rates in the methanol-water-car . . .bon dioxide system are compared and the increase in the mass transfer rates due to convective effects is presented Daha fazlası Daha az

Signaling by neuronal tyrosine kinase receptors: Relevance for development and regeneration

Hausott, B. | Kurnaz, I. | Gajovic, S. | Klimaschewski, L.

Conference Object | 2009 | Anatomical Record292 ( 12 ) , pp.1976 - 1985

Receptor tyrosine kinase activation by binding of neurotrophic factors determines neuronal morphology and identity, migration of neurons to appropriate destinations, and integration into functional neural circuits as well as synapse formation with appropriate targets at the right time and at the right place. This review summarizes the most important aspects of intraneuronal signaling mechanisms and induced gene expression changes that underlie morphological and neurochemical consequences of receptor tyrosine kinase activation in central and peripheral neurons. © 2009 Wiley-Liss, Inc.
