A critical comment by Ali Umit Keskin on the paper authored by Khan S. A., Shahani D. T., and Agarwala A. K., titled 'Sensor calibration and compensation using artificial neural network', is presented. One section of the paper by Khan and Agarwala presents artificial neural network (ANN) based solutions to linearize negative temperature coefficient (NTC) thermistor based temperature measurement system. Ali comments that a same paper reporting another approach to the same subject has been published by Chatterjee and Munshi relatively. The authors have used data of an NTC thermistor, with different selected temperature modeling span i . . .n their modeling process. Ali emphasizes that in fact, the beta value is also temperature dependent and it decreases with increasing temperature. He says that the inverse model can be evolved so that combined transfer function of a sensor and its inverse model become unity Daha fazlası Daha az

Unaddressed problems and research perspectives in scheduling blood collection from donors

Baş Güre, S. | Carello, G. | Lanzarone, E. | Yalçındağ, S.

Note | 2018 | Production Planning and Control29 ( 1 ) , pp.84 - 90

Many optimisation problems arise in managing the Blood Donation (BD) supply chain. Most of them have been addressed in the literature, while other problems, e.g. donation scheduling, have not been sufficiently addressed so far. However, blood collection from donors may have a disruptive impact on the entire BD supply chain if not properly managed. For example, scheduling donation appointments based on some system metrics may improve the flow of blood units through the BD supply chain and increase the quality of service perceived by donors. In this short communication, we present the donation scheduling problem and highlight the lack . . . of work in the literature that deals with this problem. Then, we analyse the impact of an unbalanced flow of blood units on the BD system and the benefits that may derive from a suitable appointment scheduling. Finally, we propose suggestions for future research in BD collection scheduling that may improve the BD process. © 2017 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group Daha fazlası Daha az

The immediate effects of kinesiotm taping on shoulder external rotation in people with shoulder pain -

Felek, S.G. | Kartlık, M. | Gök, Ş. | İnal, H.S.

Note | 2014 | Orthopaedic Journal of Sports Medicine2 ( 11 ) , pp.84 - 90

Objectives: Observing the immediate effect of KinesioTMTaping (KT) on shoulder external rotation in people with shoulder pain. Methods: The mean ages of participants (n=17;7W&10M) were 47,11± 1,28yrs, weight 72,4±13,10kg, height 1,68±0,069cm, and body mass index were 25,57±3,41kg/cm2. All were under physiotherapy with moderate degree of shoulder pain during movement and rest. They gave their own written consent to participate voluntarily to the test protocol. Their sosciodemografic features (physical features, habit of physical activity) were taken with a specially prepared questionnaire for this study. Their muscle power (JTech Myo . . .metry) and range of motion-ROM of shoulder joints were assessed before the test protocol. The active external-internal rotations were tested as before and after KT while the participants sat on a stable chair, forearm was supported on the table with as much as possible 90° of shoulder abduction within the pain limits. The hand was in supination and the line drawn on the dorsum of the hand and forearm was to nominate the longitudinal axis. The photographs of each participant were taken by IPhone 4 (Apple) in direct line just opposite to the forearm to record the last position of the forearm during shoulder rotations. An eye band and a headphone were used during the test. Through a universal on-screen digitizer (Desktop Ruler™) the goniometric measurements were double checked on the computer. Their pain was assessed through Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) and McGill Pain Questionnaire (MPQ) as before and after KT application. The disability they faced to during their daily life was assessed by Disability of Arm Shoulder and Hand Questionnaire (DASH) as before and after KT application. Y shaped KT was applied to subscapular muscles, the medial arm reaches towards the spine of scapula and the lateral arm was towards the acromion. All data were analysed statistically. The descriptive statistics were used for the physical features of the participants. Wilcoxon Signed Rank test was used for the significance of the data (p< 0.05) and Spearmen Correlation was used to understand the relation between the data. Results: KT was found effective on muscle strength; M.Subscapularis, M.Supraspinatus, M.Infraspinatus and M.Teres Minor strengths were significantly higher after KT(p< 0.05). KT also improved ROM of the shoulder external-internal rotations ( Daha fazlası Daha az

Meticillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus

Boyce, J.M. | Cookson, B. | Christiansen, K. | Hori, S. | Vuopio-Varkila, J. | Kocagöz, S. | Pittet, D.

Note | 2005 | Lancet Infectious Diseases5 ( 10 ) , pp.653 - 663

Meticillin was introduced in 1959 to treat infections caused by penicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus. In 1961 there were reports from the UK of S aureus isolates that had acquired resistance to meticillin (meticillin-resistant S aureus, MRSA). Similar MRSA isolates were soon found in other European countries, and later from Japan, Australia, and the USA. Today MRSA is a major cause of hospital-acquired infections, and a serious public-health concern. In this forum, we present different perspectives from across the globe to better understand the complexity of the problem, and examine the challenges that individual countries fac . . .e in trying to control the spread of MRSA Daha fazlası Daha az

First report of fire blight disease caused by Erwinia amylovora on Rockspray (Cotoneaster horizontalis) in Turkey

Bastas, K.K. | Şahin, Fikrettin

Note | 2012 | Plant Disease96 ( 11 ) , pp.146 - 147

In the late summer and early winter of 2008 and 2009, leaf and shoot blight and cankers with reddish and brownish necrotic tissue on mature branches of Cotoneaster horizontalis were investigated in landscape areas of Konya province in Turkey. Disease incidence was estimated at 2%. Bacteria were consistently isolated from the lesions on leaves and shoots on nutrient sucrose agar medium. Twelve representative bacterial strains were isolated and characterized as gram-negative, rod-shaped, mucoid, fermentative, yellow-orange on MS medium, positive for levan formation and acetoin production, no growth at 36°C, positive for gelatin hydrol . . .ysis, and negative for indole, urease, oxidase, arginine dehydrolase, reduction of nitrate, and acid production from lactose and inositol (2). Two reference strains of Erwinia amylovora (EaP28 and NCPPB 2791) obtained from the culture collection unit of Selcuk University were used as positive controls. All strains induced a hypersensitive response in tobacco (Nicotiana tobaccum cv. White Burley). All strains were identified as E. amylovora on the basis of amplification of a 1 kb DNA fragment with a species-specific primer set, A/B (1) by PCR, and fatty acid methyl ester profiles determined by Sherlock Microbial Identification System software (TSBA 6 v. 6.00; Microbial ID, Newark, DE) with similarity indices ranging from of 83 to 96%. Pathogenicity tests were performed by injecting 20 µl of a bacterial suspension (108 CFU ml-1) into the shoot tips of 3-year-old C. horizontalis seedlings. Leaf and shoot blighting symptoms were observed within 10 to 15 days, but no symptoms were observed on control plants treated with sterile water. The bacterium was reisolated from the lesions on leaves and shoots and identified as described above. To our knowledge, this is the first report of E. amylovora on cotoneaster in Turkey. Control measures are needed to prevent any further spread of the bacterium to new landscape areas. © 2012 The American Phytopathological Society Daha fazlası Daha az
