Orta Çağ’ın başında, V. ve VIII. yüzyıllar arasında Soğdluların doğuya doğru olan göçü, Orta Asya kara kütlesinde gerçekleşen kültürel etkileşimlerin tarihinde önemli bir unsurdur. Yedisu, Otrar ve diğer birçok yerleşim yerinde ve özellikle Tang’ın başkenti Chang, Luoyang ve Dunhuang kentlerinde Soğd nüfusu iki katına çıkmıştı. Türk - Yunan nüfus mübadelesinin sonuçlarının Mudanya ilçesi ölçeğinde değerlendirilmesi

Lozan görüşmelerinde uygulanmasına karar verilen uzun tartışma ve görüşmelerden sonra 30 Ocak 1923 tarihinde Türk-Yunan Nüfus Mübadelesi onaylanmıştır. Dönemin olağanüstü şartlarının gerekli kıldığı nüfus mübadelesi, 2 milyondan fazla insanın hayatını derinden etkilemiş, vatan bildikleri topraklardan koparmış, pek çok kaybın yaşanmasına sebep olmuştur.
