Bloody, bold and resolute: Dimensions of power in Hamlet, King Lear and Macbeth

This thesis argues that there is a symbiotic relationship between the actions of characters making use of different aspects of power, and the plot progression in three tragedies by William Shakespeare; Hamlet, King Lear, and Macbeth, whose plots were built upon a problem of succession. This study focuses on the politics of enmity in relation to the concepts of carnival and politics of friendship in Shakespeare’s late Roman play, Coriolanus. It further investigates the politics of enmity that reconstructs Coriolanus as a play through the play’s interpretation of the carnival politics, sacred Roman ideals, and the dichotomy between the figures of the friend and the enemy.

Shocks, jumps, booms, and busts are typical large fluctuation markers that appear in crisis. Identifying financial crises and estimating leading indicators with strong relations during crisis periods have an essential role in the literature. This thesis examines the dynamic co-movements of leading indicators' multifractal features to identify financial crises due to large fluctuations.
