Exploring the shadow and trickster archetypes: an analysis of Alex in a clockwork orange and Amy in gone girl

The purpose of this study is to analyze the main characters, Alex in Anthony Burgess's A Clockwork Orange and Amy in Gillian Flynn's Gone Girl, through a Jungian perspective. Both characters exhibit complex and multilayered personalities, embodying the darker aspects of human behavior while employing cunning and manipulative tactics to achieve their goals. This thesis aims to explore two contemporary novels, Elif Shafak’s The Island of Missing Trees and Christy Lefteri’s Songbirds by using Mikhail Bakhtin’s theoretical framework on language and the novel. The Bakhtinian concepts of heteroglossia, polyphony, and dialogism are used to unveil the different viewpoints which emerge through the utterances of the narrators and characters. Shocks, jumps, booms, and busts are typical large fluctuation markers that appear in crisis. Identifying financial crises and estimating leading indicators with strong relations during crisis periods have an essential role in the literature. This thesis examines the dynamic co-movements of leading indicators' multifractal features to identify financial crises due to large fluctuations.
