The aim of this thesis is to propose a hypothetical community for queer people of 20th century England depicted in two novels: Radclyffe Hall’s The Well of Loneliness (1928) and Jeanette Winterson’s Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit (1985) through Agamben’s idea of community. This study also intends to investigate the issue of the queer people in the 20th century, while demonstrating that the oppression of homosexual people has not changed despite the fact that one of the two novels is written at the beginning and the other at the end of the twentieth century. Suggesting a community to the queer ...Daha fazlası
The global value chain has increased its importance with the spread of foreign trade between countries. As a result of this situation, it has provided serious economic returns to the countries. This thesis study examines the conditions that laid the groundwork for art funds in particular, their formation and development processes, and subsequently analyses the properties of art funds as a type of investment fund, and their structure and diversity, ultimately closely examining their investment strategies in detail through examples. Although artworks have been known to be valuable for centuries, the classification and acceptance of artworks as an asset class is a newer phenomenon that occurred in the last century. The operating mechanisms unique to the art markets evolved within the li ...Daha fazlası
Regardless of the cultural differences, the 19th century Victorian England and Tanzimat Period in Ottoman Empire had similar expectations from women. The two novelists from these two countries, Thomas Hardy and Ahmet Mithat Efendi, had critical attitude towards such expectations. Thus they created socially unacceptable but acceptable for them heroines. Afterall, for some Sue Bridehead is Hardy’s main focus and similarly for Ahmet Mithat Raziye is still an angel. The reason why these two heroines are unacceptable for the society’s of their days is intriguing. Considering all these, the aim of t ...Daha fazlası
The emergence of virtual reality in recent years has primarily focused on user interfaces, visual simulation, and 3D graphics. However, the community's interest in virtual reality has shifted towards the gaming industry in order to reach a larger audience. This thesis aims to study the differences and similarities between virtual games and traditional video games in order to determine user preferences and opinions. Over 60 days (April 1st - May 31st, 2023), an online survey gathered 300 comprehensive responses, revealing substantial insights, and 4 interviews have been conducted with 4 volunte ...Daha fazlası
Advances in machine learning in recent years have also been seen in computationally creative systems. Interest in machine-generated artifacts paved a way for creative models to evolve as such. But the earlier methods mostly explored a one domain approach and cross-modal learning has stayed relatively unexplored. Thus, the direct mapping between modalities for cross-modal creative models is not fully explored. This work proposes a novel methodology for generating symbolic music through images by directly mapping their features. A CNN encoder and deep stacked LSTM decoder are the base models as ...Daha fazlası
Migration has always been a way for people to reach a better life and a strategy to adapt to changing conditions. Since the early 1000s, climate-related environmental changes have begun to directly impact communities whose way of life is dependent on nature and local resources. Owing to climate change, which is mostly a result of human activity, and the devastating environmental changes it has created, people have begun to relocate voluntarily or forcefully, to abandon their homelands, and these migrations within the country or across borders are now evident. The International Organization for ...Daha fazlası
Financial institutions' operations are being drastically altered by artificial intelligence (AI), which, as a result ofoperational efficiencies and savings of cost, is predicted to take over mundane jobs more and more. This research aims to study the level of awareness of the certified public accountants and their perceptions on the application of AI in the field of accou ...Daha fazlası
This study aims to provide an extensive analysis of systematic (market-wide) and systemic (sector-wide and industry-wide) components of the idiosyncratic default risk. We detect significant heterogeneity among the default risk structure of various industry groups. More specifically, the default probability of institutions affiliated with certain industry groups is more strongly linked to industry-wide risks while others are more heavily tied to sectorwide risks. We further show that systematic and systemic components of default risk alter also relative to up/down market cycles for each indust ...Daha fazlası
The present study experimentally investigates the order of NP-internal modifiers in gesture modality as practiced by Turkish speaking participants in an attempt to understand the natural order within NPs cross linguistically, whether the participants’ preferences reflect a homomorphism bias, and whether their preferences are influenced by their native language. For these purposes, Turkish-speaking participants (N=44) randomly assigned to two conditions where access to their native language was suppressed in the first block (suppression-first condition) or where access to their native language ...Daha fazlası

The aim of this thesis is to analyze the main female characters in two short stories and a novel written in three different periods, using the conceptual analysis framework that Kate Millett puts forward in her 1970 work Sexual Politics. In her book Sexual Politics, Millett formulated two important concepts as “sexual politics” and “sexual revolution” and focused on how the family institution and genders were handled in literary works. The most important contribution of her work and the reason why it is one of the founding texts of the second wave feminist movement is that she sees the aboliti ...Daha fazlası
