Safevî Devleti’nin tarihi incelendiğinde önemli bir dönüm noktası olarak görülen Şâh I. Abbâs döneminde (1587-1629) kurumların merkezîleştiği ve Avrupalı devletlerle temasının arttığı bir dönem olarak iz bırakmıştır. Şâh Tahmasb dönemi itibarıyla İsnâaşeriyye Şiîliği’ni halka tanıtmak amacıyla ülkeye gelmeye başlayan Cebel-i ‘Âmil âlimleri, Şâh I. Abbâs döneminde ise düzenli bir göç hareketi haline geldi. Türk - Yunan nüfus mübadelesinin sonuçlarının Mudanya ilçesi ölçeğinde değerlendirilmesi

Lozan görüşmelerinde uygulanmasına karar verilen uzun tartışma ve görüşmelerden sonra 30 Ocak 1923 tarihinde Türk-Yunan Nüfus Mübadelesi onaylanmıştır. Dönemin olağanüstü şartlarının gerekli kıldığı nüfus mübadelesi, 2 milyondan fazla insanın hayatını derinden etkilemiş, vatan bildikleri topraklardan koparmış, pek çok kaybın yaşanmasına sebep olmuştur. Mübadele Anlaşması ile öncesinde fiilen başlayan karşılıklı göç hareketine, resmi nitelik getirilmiştir. Bursa ve Mudanya ilçesi, her yönüyle tam bir göçmen şehridir.
